The ability to regulate emotions and behavior is associated with perceived social competence as well as academic success. A low threshold for dysregulation can create excessive distress and prevent individuals from engaging in logical decision-making, listening, and responding.
Positive experiences in collaboration over time help clients build trust with others and develop social skills to improve quality of life. This can be especially helpful for individuals who have experienced negative social interactions like bullying or are socially isolated.
Planning includes the ability to think on one’s feet and respond adaptively to evolving circumstances. Planning and organizational abilities have been positively linked to school outcomes in adolescents and help individuals understand cause-and-effects.
Perspective includes the ability to recognize that others have unique thoughts, feelings, desires, experiences, and values different from one’s own and consider them and adjust behaviors in response. Understanding the experiences of others is vital to building meaningful trusting relationships and effective interpersonal communication.
Play is a vital part of development and instrumental in the development of social, cognitive, and emotional skills. Clients will create a character/avatar and through our TA-RPG groups practice skills collaboratively with others, similar to simulation training – they can experiment with alternate behaviors and try on new aspects of their identity.
